Google My Business Suspends Features Due to Covid-19.

On a Google announcement published, Google announced that it will be temporarily limiting, and in some cases disable some features for Google My Business. According to Google, as a result of the company reducing the number of employees working in the office, “there may be some temporary limitations and delays in support as we prioritize critical services,” stating that their current is “the quality and reliability of information on Google Search and Maps”. 

Google did state in their announcement that:

 

“We will prioritize reviews for edits critical to health-related businesses. At this time, we will also prioritize reviews for open and closed states, special hours, temporary closures, business descriptions, and business attributes edits for other verified businesses.”

 

Additionally, for businesses trying to create, verify or claim their Google My Business listing, these are going to be manually processed, therefore do expect a delay. However, they will be prioritizing any “critical health-related businesses”

Reviews, reply to reviews and the Q&A features in your Google My Business listing are also being temporarily disabled during this time. I could imagine that again, this is due to the decrease in “man-power”.

Update your business hours if these have changed

 

If you’ve had to change your hours to meet your city’s local response to COVID-19, your customers must be aware of these changes. These hours will show in your Google My Business listing when someone searches for your business on Google Maps.

Share important information with your community

 

You can use your GMB listing’s “business description” to communicate any relevant and important information as it pertains to your business and customers. As Google states, “you can share information about any extra precautions your business is taking, such as moving to takeout or delivery only. You can also share if you’re providing any extra services to the community, or whether you’re experiencing delays.”

The Posts feature is a great way to share information about your business engagingly. With GMB’s Posts feature you can upload images and videos to help you communicate important and relevant information. You can also use Posts as a way to continue to communicate regularly directly with your community as this situation continues to evolve and how your business is responding and adapting.
